We have some exciting news here at the Trove. We are now selling dōTERRA Essential Oils!
If you haven’t heard of these oils and the amazing things they can do, get ready to be amazed. They can be used for everything from food prep, to beauty treatment, to healthcare practices. They have essential oils blends specifically made to aid in digestion, energy, sore muscles, weight loss, and so much more! But what are essential oils exactly? dōTERRA explains on their website:
“If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. Essential oils provide plants with protection against environmental threats and play a role in plant pollination.”
If essential oils play such a big part in the health of plants and nature, it’s no wonder that when used by people the benefits are enormous.
You can use them 3 different ways: aromatically, topically, and internally. When you take the aromatic route, the oils can elicit a physiological, mental, and emotional response. The scents from the oils are quickly absorbed by smell receptors, which have a direct link to the body’s limbic system (the part of the brain responsible for smell, emotions, behavior, and memory) thanks to the olfactory nerve. When essential oils are used this way they can have uplifting or invigorating effects, and others can produce a more calming reaction. Place a few drops on your palms, cup them around your nose, and inhale deeply. Or invest in one of dōTERRA’s diffusers and enjoy the aromas for hours! There are many additional ways to use essential oils aromatically. dōTERRA suggests putting oils on a cotton ball and placing it in your air vents in your car. Or mix oils with water and mist over furniture, carpet, or linens. You can even add the oils to a load of laundry or to dryer sheets!
The second channel of use for essential oils is topically. Essential oils have low molecular weights and are lipid soluble. Therefore, they are able to easily penetrate the skin. This makes them great for when you have a specific body part that needs attention! dōTERRA advises several small doses every 4-6 hours is more beneficial than one large dose. So massage your stiff neck or sore muscles with Deep Blue, the essential oil designed to soothe and cool after a long day or intense workout. Or add some drops to a warm bath! Or add oils to a hot or cold compress. Or even add to lotions! The possibilities are endless.
The third avenue of use for essential oils is internally. Essential oils make great dietary supplements because when ingested they directly enter the bloodstream via the GI tract and contain targeted and potent health benefits. Add oils to recipes to replace fresh or dry herbs and spices while you cook, or even add a drop or two to your drinks!
